This was posted on my alternates account FB page but I feel like it needs to be put here. It is partly vent but partly needs to be put out there for those that need it. If you have the time please read.

I know it's rare that I post things like this but I've seen the image above on one of my favourite bands pages were a piece of fanart of their album covers was posted and some of these comments really p*ssed me off. This is going to be long as well but I need to get this off my chest since I don't say anything a lot of the time.

As an aspiring artist myself it really really annoys me when I see this kind of thing. Criticism can come in many forms and can be really useful, but things like this is not on. And that goes for anything - drawing, writing and cosplay.

Yes, these things are hard. They're NOT always easy and require a lot of time, energy and passion - but if you enjoy doing something then that can help to make it easier. If you see someone that is better than you, that shouldn't take you down. Nor should you feel like you should give up because of it. It should only spur you on more, give you something to aspire to. If you find someone that's better to you, take them as a role model, look up to them and see if you can learn from them.

I, as most people do, have those I look up to in the different mediums I practice in. And yes, sometimes it's hard to see what they do compared to what you do but just look back to where you started. Look for areas of improvement and work on them, as you need to in order to move on and improve. Take one step at a time, perfection isn't instant.

And if you can, seek advice from others. Maybe even give a little if you can - but don't bully or anything like this. Encouragement is needed for those that work hard, I've seen so many good people downhearted and even give because of one douchebag that decides to say something cruel about something someone may have poured their heart and soul into.
But just remember, if the artist/cosplayer/writer doesn't ask for criticism, then take their word and leave it alone. Same thing goes for if you don't like something- don't say anything.

I know there will always be people that always have to say something nasty, but take it upon yourself to NOT be that person.

No matter who you are, no matter your skill level, no matter what you do, just remember everyone has to start somewhere and everyone has to potential to improve in whatever way they can. For some it may take longer than others, but you will get there as long as you have the passion and put the time in.

Never give up and do whatever you enjoy, no matter what anyone else tells you
